The Misfits at Chicago's House of Blues

Written by

The MisfitsSubwoofers were kicking out some serious air through the crowd of standing room only under 30’s. Interesting hair styles and leather studded everything was the classic look for the evening. The Misfits took the stage at the House of Blues opening with a sample of the theme to the movie Halloween and then proceeded to play their single by the same name. It was like watching a horror film that was set to demonic music.

Subwoofers were kicking out some serious air through the crowd of standing room only under 30’s. Interesting hair styles and leather studded everything was the classic look for the evening. The Misfits took the stage at the House of Blues opening with a sample of the theme to the movie Halloween and then proceeded to play their single by the same name. It was like watching a horror film that was set to demonic music.

Misfits2Skulls, goat heads, and dead bodies hanging on spears decorated the stage. Fog was coming out of the mouths of the goat heads and the place was filled with abomination and adrenalin. Mephistopheles presence was felt by all as they watched this live presentation straight from the bowels of Hell. The Misfits did things that would’ve amazed Satan.

Jerry Only led the trio of masquerading musicians and captivated the audience with their commanding performance. Accompanied by Dez Cadena and Robo from the band Black Flag, this horror punk band surprised the crowd. In many ways they bowled over the audience with the quick rhythms. Some were left shell shocked from the music and others were not too crazy about the current lineup. A few fans were left asking what was Only doing. One fan had made the comment that he didn’t think that Cadena and Robo fit The Misfits at all. The overall reaction of the audience as a whole was genuinely fired up just to see this incredible show.

Misfit fans and true music hounds would have loved to see and experience this performance. The heavy and powerful sounds that were caught by your ears were enough to leave you screaming for more. The decibel level was high and would have made the crowd thrilled if their ears would have had blood dripping from them as they watched the diabolical band perform their hymns. The word ballad is not in their vocabulary.

The mean spirited lyrics that were screeched into the crowd kept the on lookers banging their heads and demanding more. Horned Mohawks in different colors were moving around in the mosh pit. Body surfers were being thrown around the sea of fans in a helpless manner. Something to remember, if you want to stay and see the rest of the show don’t body surf. Security had exited a few fans for performing this act.

The performance by The Misfits was tremendous and needs to be seen to be appreciated. Jerry Only and his newer lineup blew the roof off of the House of Blues. This guy has been performing this act since 1977 and it keeps getting better. The music itself isn’t for anybody, but seeing them live is a totally different experience. This is really something that needs to be seen to be appreciated.
