Drury Lane Theatre continues its 2026/2027 season with the divine extravaganza Nunsense, featuring book, music and lyrics by David Goggin, directed by E. Faye Butler. Enjoy some holy hilarity with the Little Sisters of Hoboken in Nunsense, running June 10 – August 2, at Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. 

Get ready to laugh the summer away with nuns from the Little Sisters of Hoboken. This beloved revue will have you in stitches as the five sisters stage a variety show fundraiser filled with outrageous musical numbers and zany comedy. 

The cast of Nunsense includes Aurora Boe (Sister Mary Leo), Rachel Carreras (Sister Robert Anne),  Kelly Felthous (Sister Mary Amnesia), Cory Goodrich (Reverend Mother), and Sharriese Hamilton (Sister Mary Hubert). Understudies include Marta Bady, Caron Buinis, and Kayla Shipman.

Aurora Boe (Sister Mary Leo)  is thrilled to be back on the Drury Lane Stage! On-stage Credits Include: Drury Lane's "Sister Act" (Tina, Waitress, Ensemble, Mary Robert US), The Beautiful City Project's "Designer Run" (Choreographer, Dancer) & "We Will Rock You" (Ensemble), or Columbia College's "Sunday In The Park With George" (Dot/Marie). Aurora graduated with a BA in musical theatre from Columbia College Chicago in 2025, and recently received Chicago Cabaret Professionals 2025 Emerging Artists scholarship & 2026 New Vocalist Award. Rachel Carreras (Sister Robert Anne) is thrilled to be back in the habit after playing Sister Mary Patrick in Sister Act at Drury Lane last season! Kelly Felthous (Sister Mary Amnesia) is thrilled to be back at Drury Lane having previously performed in Elf and Jeff nominated roles in Chicago and Little Shop of Horrors. Favorite credits include: Violet in Violet, Sally Bowles in Cabaret , Lauren in Kinky Boots, Judy in White Christmas, Mrs. Wormwood in Matilda and Dawn in Waitress. She originated the roles of Caroline in Trip of Love, Ruby in Max and Ruby, Eva in Bring it On, and Gloria in Flashdance. National Tours: Marty in Grease and Galinda/Nessarose u/s in Wicked. Cory Goodrich (Reverend Mother) is a Jeff Award-winning actress, singer/songwriter, and author. She began her professional career at Drury Lane playing another Nun - Maria in The Sound of Music, and received Jeff awards for her roles as Mother in Ragtime (Drury Lane) and June Carter Cash in Ring of Fire (Mercury Theater Chicago).  Most recently, she played Heidi in What the Constitution Means to Me at Paramount's Copley Theatre. Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announces the cast and creative team for Brokeback Mountain, the North American premiere production of Ashley Robinson's adaptation of the captivating novella by Annie Proulx that inspired the Academy Award-winning film. The production is directed by Jonathan Butterell and plays May 28–June 28 in the Jentes Family Courtyard Theater. Brokeback Mountain stars Harrison Ball as Ennis Del Mar and Jack Cameron Kay as Jack Twist, leading an ensemble cast that also features Thomas Cox, Cordelia Dewdney, Kat Eggleston, and Alina Jenine Taber. 

Wyoming 1963: a wild landscape of extreme rural poverty and insular conservative communities. When Ennis and Jack take jobs on the isolated Brokeback Mountain, all their certainties of life change forever as they flounder in unexpected emotional waters of increasing depth. This intense tale of an irresistible and hidden love spans twenty years and is interwoven with soulful, original Country Western songs by Dan Gillespie Sells, performed live onstage.

"Audiences will enjoy a truly immersive experience watching this in the intimacy of the Courtyard Theater, where every glance, every breath and every absence deepens what is unsaid and felt beneath the surface."

Harrison Ball (Ennis Del Mar, CST debut) is an actor, choreographer, writer, and producer with a dynamic career spanning ballet, film, and theatre. A former principal dancer with New York City Ballet, he spent 13 years performing a vast repertoire that included works by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Justin Peck, and many others. In 2022, Ball starred alongside Debbie Harry in Catharsis, a short film that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Jack Cameron Kay (Jack Twist, CST debut) is an actor, songwriter, and Juilliard-trained classical singer. His breakout role came as Joshua "Jones" in Netflix's Boots (2025), a coming-of-age dramedy set in 1990s Marine boot camp. He also appeared in the short film Bird in Hand and the upcoming Club Kid, premiering at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.

The cast also features Thomas Cox as Joe Aguirre/Bill/Jack's Father (CST debut; founding ensemble member of Lookingglass Theatre Company, many additional credits including at Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre, and more), Cordelia Dewdney as Alma (Ashland Avenue at Goodman Theatre, Steel Magnolias at Drury Lane), Kat Eggleston as the Balladeer/Jack's Mother (CST debut; musical artist with multiple recordings, including her award-winning solo album Speak; credits at Briar Street Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre, and Victory Gardens), and Alina Jenine Taber as Lureen (Arwen in The Lord of the Rings: A Musical Tale at CST, A Streetcar Named Desire at Paramount Theatre, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical at Marriott Theatre). Ashley Robinson is a Brooklyn based writer/actor who grew up in rural Lockhart, South Carolina. In addition to Brokeback Mountain, he has also conceived and penned the books for musicals Fall of '945 & Dime, and Lockhart. As an actor, Robinson has performed in Floyd Collins (Wiltons Music Hall, London), A Clockwork Orange (New World Stages), Casa Valentina (Original London Cast), Truman Capote's A Christmas Memory (New York Premiere/ 2015 Outer Critics Award Nom), Merrily We Roll Along (Menier Chocolate Factory and West End), The Last Goodbye (Williamstown Theatre Festival), and Wicked (Original Chicago Company). He also originated the role of Jett Rink in the World Premiere of the musical Giant (Helen Hayes Award nomination, Best Actor).  

Jonathan Butterell is a director and choreographer who has worked in London, New York, and around the world. He directed the movie Everybody's Talking About Jamie, released globally on Amazon Prime in 2021. Prior to that he spent time developing and directing the award-winning stage musical Everybody's Talking About Jamie. Further directing credits include: Alone Together, Michael Ball's one man show (Donmar Warehouse and Theatre Royal Haymarket); Floyd Collins (Wilton's Music Hall); Peter Pan (Royal Festival Hall); How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (Royal Festival Hall); Second Chance (Signature Theatre and Public Theater); Whida Peru: Resurrection Tangle (Inner Voice for Premier Stages); and Tres Niñas (Zipper Theatre). Butterell created the musical staging for the Tony Award-winning shows The Light in the Piazza (Lincoln Center Theater) and Assassins (Broadway), as well as the revival of Fiddler on the Roof (Broadway) and the musical staging for the original workshop of Sondheim's musical Wise Guys at New York Theatre Workshop, directed by Sam Mendes. Butterell also choreographed the Tony award-winning Nine on Broadway, and further productions in London, Buenos Aires and Tokyo.

The novella's author Annie Proulx shared, "Brokeback Mountain has been recreated in several different forms, each with its own distinctive moods and impact. Ashley's script is fresh and deeply moving, opening sight lines not visible in the original nor successive treatments. The story has always projected a sense of the difficult fated solitudes that echo in Wyoming's tawny landscapes. The joinery of script, actors, director, theatre, audiences becomes a complex watershed of dozens of mountain streams finally merging into a river of sensibility."

Opening is set for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4.

  • PRIDE Night at Brokeback Mountain will take place Tuesday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. with a pre-show party beginning at 5:30 p.m. Gather around the "CAMPfire" for a joyful celebration to kick-off Pride Month with Western music, dancing, community, and a splash of camp. Each ticket to the show includes one free drink, light bites, and special pre-show activities in the lobby.
  • On Wednesday, June 10 after the 1:00 p.m. performance, CST will host a post-show discussion on LGBTQIA+ experiences of health and history as part of the national Seven Days in June campaign to ensure "Health is Primary." Marking the 45th anniversary of the first known case of what became HIV/AIDS, the panel will be moderated by journalist and community leader Tracy Baim, co-founder of Windy City Times and executive director of Press Forward Chicago.
  • All Wednesday and Saturday evening performances will be perfectly timed to enjoy Navy Pier summer fireworks after the performance (beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays).

The South Florida based YI Love Jewish and Chicago-based Arts Judaica proudly join forces to present a limited engagement of the Chicago Premiere production of L. M. Feldman's acclaimed theatrical mosaic A PEOPLE, at Theater WitDirected by world renowned actor, director and Jewish Culture activist Avi Hoffman, A PEOPLE invites Chicago audiences on a magical, lyrical journey through 5,000 years of Jewish identity, heritage, and humanity, brought to life by a dynamic ensemble of performers. The ensemble portrays a range of old and new-world characters, weaving together vignettes that question, affirm, and reimagine what it means to be part of a people. Historical and fictional characters, separated by generations, meet in a surreal landscape to explore their peoples' rich history and traditions, much of which they fear will be forgotten entirely. The play will preview June 18 and 19, 2026, prior to opening on Saturday, June 20th at 7:30 pm,  and play through July 5th. Performances are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. There will be a special matinee celebrating  'Jewish Pride and Independence Day', Saturday, July 4 at 2:00 pm, as part of an ongoing initiative to celebrate Jewish Pride through world-class theater. 

Feldman's script is sometimes hilarious, sometimes searingly honest, as it weaves together old and new-world  voices to explore how all individuals wrestle with, deny, or embrace their heritage. The result is a vivid collage of characters and moments that illuminate the way we see life, the way we want it, and the way it really is.

YI Love Jewish is a global cultural initiative that advocates for Jewish Pride, builds cultural bridges and challenges antisemitism through the arts, while celebrating and promoting Jewish history, life, and culture, and their far-reaching impact on the world.

Arts Judaica, a Chicago-based 501(c)(3), is the city's only producing organization dedicated exclusively to exploring and celebrating Jewish history, culture, and arts through live theater, music, and educational programming. Avi Hoffman (Director) - Founder and CEO of Yiddishkayt Initiative, Avi Hoffman is a world-famous actor, who specializes in Jewish culture and Yiddish theater. His long-running "Too Jewish" trilogy has been seen by millions on PBS and in venues around the world. Based in Miami, Florida, he has produced and presented shows throughout North America, Europe and Israel. International Festivals include Romania, Poland, New York, Toronto, Montreal, Tel-Aviv and other European cities and countries. His connections in the theater, entertainment and film communities are extensive. He was awarded Congressional recognition, was invited to the Vatican to meet Pope Francis and was inducted into the Bronx Jewish Hall of Fame for his lifetime work advancing Jewish culture and was named a "Sage" by THE NEW YORK TIMES.

Buffalo Theatre Ensemble (BTE), the professional Equity theater company in residence at the McAninch Arts Center (MAC), announced it will mark its 40th anniversary season with three productions spanning beloved literary adaptations, classic suspense and broad British comedy. The season opens with "Louisa May Alcott's Little Women," by Lauren Gunderson (Nov. 12-Dec. 13). It will be followed by "Dial M for Murder" adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher, from the original by Frederick Knott,  directed by Steve Scott (Jan. 28-Feb. 28) and Richard Bean's "One Man, Two Guvnors" directed by Ensemble member Connie Canaday Howard (May 6-June 6).

The Chicago Sun-Times says, "'Dial M' calls up a noirish universe filled with shady corners and shadier characters," and the Chicago Tribune calls it, "an entertaining evening of old-fashioned suspense." The perpetually hungry Francis Henshall accidentally winds up employed by two men: a fearsome gangster and a criminal on the run. Both guvnors are entangled in a web of schemes, shakedowns and seductions. To keep his double-dealing a secret, Henshall must juggle both guvnors, chase a decent meal and win the girl. Playwright Bean transports the classic commedia dell'arte tale "The Servant of Two Masters" (1746) into the bright, brash world of seaside Brighton in 1963. Daily Variety calls "One Man, Two Guvnors" "...sheer comic delirium," and London Theatre calls it "one of the funniest shows I've seen ... a rip-roaring hit."

For each play, there will be a pre-show discussion before the Thursday preview performances, and a post-show discussion following the second Friday performance. There will be an ASL Performance on the fourth Thursday of each run.

A show somewhere between a play, standup act, memoir, and PowerPoint presentation. A show so chaotic you think it could never work. A show only Brendan Hunt could so perfectly pull off. Hunt’s solo performance is as hilarious as it is unexpectedly emotional, striking a balance between humor and trauma that only a child of divorce could pull off.

Hunt begins in 2022 with the story of the impromptu opportunity he had to meet Paul McCartney. Despite getting the opportunity by virtue of being a celebrity himself, Hunt – a lifelong, second-generation Beatles fan – was starstruck and wanted to tell Paul everything. He refrained, however, and thus The Movement You Need was born: a show where, instead, Hunt tells you everything he wanted to tell Paul. What unfolds is less a traditional narrative and more a kind of extended, often chaotic, and retrospective confession that uses that near-miss encounter as a framing device. It’s a clever but risky structure that gives the show both direction and elasticity, allowing Hunt to bounce between stories, timelines, and emotional registers (as well as lean into his personal neuroticism) without ever letting us forget that he’s fangirling to Sir Paul McCartney.

Loosely structured like a memoir, the show traces Hunt’s life from his earliest memories through adulthood and into fatherhood. Along the way, he paints a picture of growing up as a child of divorce and the son of an addict, filtering those experiences through humor that feels both self-aware and disarmingly honest. The performance leans into its rough edges in a way that works in its favor – featuring remarkably bad impressions, authentically cringey home videos, and stories that range from deeply processed to intentionally brushed past. Often, the line between curated and embarrassing is difficult to walk well (and such is the risk of making art) but as both a writer and performer, under the incredible direction of Ashley Rodbro, Hunt does so perfectly.

The evening, however, actually included more than one Brendan: Brendan Hunt, an avid Beatles fan, and an audience member who we will refer to as Brendan #2 – the lone, brave audience member who admitted to not being a Beatles fan at all. Centering a play around a fandom, even one of the largest of all time, is a premise that, on paper, might seem limiting. And yet, while Hunt’s love for the Beatles is the backbone of the piece, it’s not the barrier to entry you might expect. The show ultimately isn’t about encyclopedic knowledge of the band; it’s about memory, identity, and the stories we carry with us, as well as the way that we use something – anything – to form connections with those around us, even in the hardest of circumstances.

Technically, the production is just as thoroughly considered as the writing. The set strikes a careful balance between cozy realism and subtle nostalgia, creating a space that feels lived-in without becoming cluttered. Design elements – from Meredith Ries’s scenic work to Nick Solyom’s lighting, Kate Marvin’s sound, and Stefania Bulbarella’s projections – support the storytelling without overpowering it. Under the direction of Ashley Rodbro, everything feels intentional, giving Hunt the space to carry the show while ensuring the world around him remains fully realized and reflects his theatrical background, but never overpowering his performance.

Brendan Hunt’s one-man play-comedy-memoir hybrid is, from its writing to acting to production, one of the most cohesive and well-executed pieces of art I have seen in a long time. One big creative risk, the result is a show that feels less like something you watched and more like something you experienced alongside him. It’s funny, yes, and often wildly so – but it’s the emotional honesty underneath that gives it weight, turning what could have been a niche concept into something far more universal.

Steppenwolf's LookOut Series is proud to unveil its lineup for Summer 2026, marking ten years of steadfast dedication to Chicago performing artists and companies across form and discipline.

Since launching in 2016, the LookOut Series has hosted 1,043 performances of 365 unique engagements spanning dance, drag, music, comedy, puppetry, storytelling, experimental work and theatre. Over 69,000 patrons have come through the doors of the 1700 Theater to witness the work of more than 3,200 local artists. And the series has injected nearly one million dollars directly into the wallets of the artists and companies that it bolsters.

From June through August, LookOut is throwing a summer-long party to celebrate! Of the 18 unique engagements announced, highlights include many returning acts, including: the homecoming of the cult-classic variety show Erik and Jessie and Everyone You Know (hosted by Erik Hellman and Jessie Fisher), an experimental blending of sound and myth from the indescribable artist collective Mocrep (returning to Steppenwolf for the first time since 2019), the 11th Steppenwolf-hosted iteration of the endlessly popular storytelling showcase You're Being Ridiculous and the triumphant return of local drag icon Bambi Banks with a two week run of an all new drag parody show.

But the summer wouldn't be complete without newcomers to the LookOut Series performing at Steppenwolf for the first time. First time performers include: the comedy show Women Off-Colour, complete with sketches, musical numbers and more, The Lizzie McGuire Movie: The Play fresh off a sold out run at Color Club, award-winning "Comic-To-Watch" in the Chicago standup scene Deanna Ortiz and the Chicago premiere of Forgottonia, a music and storytelling show about West Central Illinois.

Physical Theater Festival Chicago, the city’s annual celebration of contemporary, movement-based performance, announces a bold lineup spotlighting local creativity. Each year, Physical Theater Festival reimagines what a live theater experience can be and do across cultures, languages and genres while showcasing a variety of performing arts, including clown, mime, improv, puppet/object theater, circus and dance. At this festival, the physical theater runs the gamut from innovative street theater, to award-winning and critically acclaimed new dramas, comedies and dramedies.

The festival proudly features homegrown talent, including headliner company Full Out Formula, who recently returned from Adelaide Fringe in Australia with their award-winning show, I Think It Could Work, June 3 - 7; six new short-form acts on Scratch Night, Monday, June 1 and two medium-length works with Made in Chicago on June 2. Physical Theater Festival also adds a robust slate of community workshops, June 4 - 7, each honoring the city’s vibrant performance scene.

Out of Scratch Night grows the Made in Chicago series—an opportunity for two local artists or companies to expand on work that originated at Scratch Night in up to 40-minute performances. This year’s program includes INSÉKTA with MATADORA and LegLand with The New F-Word.

MATADORA is a devised choreographic work exploring the question: “What does rage look like in the body?” Tracing the transformation of suppressed Latiné rage into a force of dignity and self-possession, the piece blends movement, ritual and theatricality. INSÉKTA, a Venezuelan–Peruvian director, choreographer and performer based in Chicago, creates work at the crossroads of dance, absurdism and Latiné Futurism. MATADORA is supported by a residency with Pivot Arts at the Wirtz Center.

In The New F-Word, award-winning Chicago ensemble LegLand dives into the atmospheric world of fog, its mystery, mood and absurdity. Building on their acclaimed Scratch Night 2025 performance, LegLand fuses comedic discomfort and moody theatricality to ask: “What’s really so cool about sitting in a smoky room anyway?” This new iteration brings audiences a theatrical playground bursting with surreal wit and visual flair.

I Think It Could Work by Full Out Formula (Chicago)

From the mischievous minds of Full Out Formula comes their seminal creation, I Think It Could Work, a daring and playful leap into the unexpected. With bright colors, dazzling acrobatics and unflinching trust, this Chicago-based contemporary circus collective invites audiences into a speculative world where your choices decide their destiny. It's a circus like you’ve never seen before: live, improvised and unforgettable.

Full Out Formula is a circus collective that makes people believe in the possibilities of their own world. It's a sneaky but feral rebellion based in Chicago, founded in 2023 by company members Sierra Rhoades Nicholls, Kevin Flanagan and Liam Bradley.

Beau and Aero by A Little Bit OFF (Seattle, USA)

Multi-award-winning Beau and Aero ask the question, “What if the Wright brothers went wrong?” Beau and Aero is an acrobatic, slapstick, latex-heavy comedy featuring two incompetent aviators on their quest for flight. Pompous pilot Beau and his clueless co-pilot Aero have crash-landed. The unlikely aeronautic duo tries everything to get back into the air - from propellers and parachutes, to balloons of all sizes, but to no avail. Distracted by their own imaginations, and the notably unhelpful contents of their emergency supply crate, the two tumble through hijinks and comedic conundrums, before emerging out the other side. The show blends clown with elements of acrobatics, mime and puppetry, with wordless humor that will tickle audiences of all ages and languages. A strong vintage aesthetic paired with the duo’s ridiculous antics onstage is a nostalgic nod to timeless classics of old American Vaudeville. It’s like Charlie Chaplin meets Amelia Earhart.

Los Regalos/The Gifts by Compañia de Teatro Fisico (Peru)

The Dance Center at Columbia College Chicago, 1306 S. Michigan Ave.

The international section of the festival opens with this beloved multi-award-winning show from Peru. A father and his two sons live alone in a house without women.The most routine of tasks such as preparing breakfast, bathing or housework turns into real adventures when tackled by three inexperienced men and their fear of now knowing what they are doing. The journey that the elder brother needs to make in order to leave home, and the fear of saying goodbye to the ones we love, will be the starting point of our story.

The June 4 performance of Los Regalos/The Gifts will be followed by a meet and greet and talk back with the artists and a Peruvian reception sponsored by Tanta Chicago and the Consulate General of Peru in Chicago.

SELL ME: I am from North Korea by Sora Baek (South Korea/USA)

A sold-out hit at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and performed in the United States. Capitol Center, this powerful, fast-paced solo piece is inspired by the true stories of courageous North Korean women defectors. On her fifteenth birthday, Jisun, a North Korean girl, decides to sell herself to an old man to buy medicine for her dying mother. After risking her life crossing into China, she learns her body is considered worthless. Will she survive in a merciless foreign land where her very existence is illegal?

Apocalipsync by Luciano Rosso (Argentina/France)

The Argentine actor from Un Poyo Rojo (Physical Theater Festival 2025), takes audiences on an extravagant journey with his one-man show Apocalipsync. Born during the spring 2020 pandemic, this show offers a reflection on isolation, creativity and a cartoon-like view of our contemporary world. Luciano Rosso brilliantly embodies around forty eccentric and witty characters who accompany him on an endless journey within the solitude of his apartment. On stage, he uses his elastic body to showcase his many talents: dance, clowning, contortion and especially lip sync. It is an exhilarating and hilarious performance about the many inventive ways we find to escape boredom.

Beyond performances, the Festival continues its commitment to artist development through workshops led by visiting artists. A dynamic series of four hands-on workshops will take place June 4 – 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., bringing international artists for an immersive exploration of physical theatre, movement, clowning, and storytelling. Designed for multi-level practitioners and curious newcomers alike, the series invites participants to expand their creative range. Join us for this rare opportunity to train across disciplines in a focused, collaborative environment.

ABOUT ALICE DA CUNHA, CO-FOUNDER and ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Alice de Cunha is a Chicago-based Brazilian and Portuguese actress, director and producer. She co-directed with Sandra Marquez the multi-award-winning Teatro Vista show The Dream King. Acting credits include Steppenwolf Theatre, Remy Bumppo, Theater 503, as well as House Theater for which she received a Jeff Award for Best Ensemble for United Flight 232.

She is the artistic director and co-founder of Chicago’s Physical Theater Festival, an annual festival committed to present in our city international acts that represent the future of what theater can be and do. She has extensive experience in the international theater festival sector and has worked, among other festivals at CASA (UK), Shortcutz London, TODOS (Portugal) and the Chicago Latino Film Festival. De Cunha is an artistic consultant to Theater Unspeakable and an adjunct professor at Loyola University.

ABOUT MARC FROST, CO-FOUNDER and EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Marc Frost is an actor, deviser, educator and Chicago native who has performed and produced work in Brazil, Ireland, Spain, the United States and the United Kingdom. He created Theater Unspeakable as a platform for original works of devised, physical theater. Based in Chicago, the award-winning company has toured nationally, performing at venues including Lincoln Center Education (NY) and Kennedy Center (DC). He currently teaches at Roosevelt University. Frost is also a proud graduate of the Commercial Theatre Institute’s 14-Week Training Program for Commercial Theatre Producers in New York City.​​
